The Kings Arms Scalford
The Kings Arms in Scalford has been hosting the Belvoir Hunt for years, and now they are struggling to survive. Only a minority of people support bloodsports - would it not be sensible for them to appeal to the majority instead?We’re pretty sure it would be good for business.
In 1957, the Daily Mirror published an article about the Belvoir Hunt’s meet at the Kings Arms. It told us about two babies, held up in order to have “blood from the dead fox’s paws” spread on their faces, to the absolute delight of their grandmother. It told us about the “kill”.
These babies must be in their sixties now. Attitudes to animals have changed, but there has been no change from the pub, which STILL hosts the hunt.
Last week, we heard about the Anchor Inn in Somerset. They were featured on Channel Four, hosting the Quantock Stag Hounds. Public pressure led them to take the sensible decision not to host them again. They were publicly congratulated. The Jamaica Inn, in Cornwall took the same decision last year, and they have not regretted it for a moment.
Does hosting the hunt affect a pub’s profits? One thing is certain – continuing to host the hunt can damage them, particularly if the pub’s name features in Social Media posts on the subject.
We know that the Kings Arms in Scalford IS struggling. We’ll find out exactly how much after The Hotel Inspector’s programme (9pm, Channel 4, 17th October).
In 2018, the Belvoir Hunt killed a fox whilst hunting from Scalford. It was cornered in a children’s playground and killed by a pack of hounds. In 2016, they killed a fox in the grounds of a Scalford nursing home. In 2022, Nottingham Hunt Saboeurs videoed a dying fox savaged by the Belvoir hounds. The footage was beyond distressing. In 2015, LACS rescued a fox from a shed. This fox was probably destined to be a “bagged fox”, for the Belvoir’s next meet. Three months later, 2 of the three rescuers were brutally assaulted.

No pub should be hosting animal abusers – not if they want to survive in this new kinder world.
No business or estate or anyone should be harbouring these hunting cults. They would see Our countryside devoid of all wildlife as long as they can gratify themselves in this evil, barbaric, bloodthirsty way. It’s well past the time these countryside criminals were ousted.

No body wants this cowardly wickedness..especially with the proven link to perversion and gangslaughtering small defenceless wildlife.
This pub has now got a large new estate built near it, The Hotel Inspector got these new people using the pub Commonsense should tell the new owners that these new people would not be into Fox hunting. Attitudes thank goodness have changed. I hope they would think twice about upsetting the new more aware customers
